I figure since I’ve recently made the switch from partier/occasional poker player to healthy golfer who has money I might as well update my blog. After our ridiculously fun road trip to Banff and Calgary that topped off the best two weeks of my life I decided I had had enough of being useless. On July 13th the switch flipped, and I made the decision I was finally going to play golf often, play poker often, eat healthy, and exercise regularly. I knew once I got through the first 2 weeks it would be a breeze. There were a couple nights the first 2 weekends I was pretty tempted to go out and have some fun, but I was glad I didn’t when I woke up early in the morning to have a full day of golf with Oliver. I didn’t realize it so much at the time since it was so much fun, but every night I drank was such a setback. I’d spend a bunch of money I shouldn’t have been spending, I’d probably eat pizza, and I’d be completely useless the next day, which would involve more pizza eating. My bank account hasn’t gone down a whole lot either, other than to buy delicious healthy food or to put gas in my crappy car to get me to the golf course and back. Anyways, on July 13th I was 230 lbs (heavy scale I think… I hope…) and I’m down to 221 now (9 lbs in 15 days what what). I’m eating 3-4 medium sized meals a day along with various snacks to keep me going when I get a bit hungry in between meals, and I’m actually moving around, working out 3x/week and have played 36 holes a couple times! I was so out of shape a few months ago I got shin splints from walking 18 holes, lolz. I haven’t cracked the 200 mark in so long I can’t wait, I’ll probably be optimal around 190 but we’ll see in a few months.
My golf game has been quite up and down. A week and a half ago I played 36 holes and shot 70-70, I was very excited and felt like it was only going to get better, then it got worse, then after that a little worse. I had a coaching session with Visty and my right arm was collapsed at the top of my backswing, no width whatsoever. It took me a while to finally get a handle on widening it, and having my right arm form a 90 degree angle at the top but I’m finally getting comfortable with it. I find when making any sort of change in golf it can be frustrating, because in being so mechanical it robs you of your tempo and rhythm which leads to godawful contact that only frustrates you further and makes you feel like you aren’t making any headway. If this is familiar then just keep at it and be calm, it will come… and it did! Had an unreal practice session at the range today. Finally got comfortable with making the mechanical move, and by the end of the 180 or so balls I hit I couldn’t have been much happier. Tomorrow I’m going to get back and further cement what I’m grooving and it should be unconsciously conscious within 2 weeks. I also got a Bushnell laser yardage finder I am happy with, if you play golf and don’t have one, get one. Tomorrow I’m going to use it at the short game range and work on dialing in my pitches, along with holing a bunch of chips and putts.
I’m looking at moving to the US for the winter to play golf, the weather in Victoria is the best in Canada, but 7 degrees and raining every day on a soggy golf course isn’t ideal for improvement. Right now I’m looking at going to Phoenix, I just have to figure out what golf course. I reckon living there will be cheap. I’ll go in November or December for probably 4 months or so, I just have to save up the expenses as I don’t think I’ll be let in unless I show I have living expenses for the time I’m there otherwise they’ll think I’m gonna jack someone’s job which I am obviously not going to. Anyways, to get this all done I’ve got to get on my grind and make some moneys, so today I managed to get myself out of bed early so I could play 8 sets and still have a practice session at the golf course. I got rewarded for being useful!

First time I’ve ever cracked 1k at the $16s in one day, lots of fun.
I’ve had a decent amount of coaching going on lately and I’m enjoying it. I’ve been doing mostly HH review and it’s quite productive. If you’re into getting SNG coaching then get at me on 2p2 or here.
I’ll leave you guys with my not so guilty pleasure of the past few days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70AgyIEnBRE
Many happy returns!
